Foreword from the Chairperson

The Eastern Cape Province remains a significantly rural province with a very rich socio-economic and political history from which future generations can draw strength. It is a province that is endowed with important natural resources, including land, soil, wind, rivers, oceans and human capital. However, the Province remains generally underdeveloped with glaring proportions of unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, gender-based violence and inequality.

The Community areas of Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse and Somerset East, where the Cookhouse Wind Farm Community Trust operates, had shown willingness to participate in the design of their own socio-economic freedom. The communities need a platform to the wealth creating space where socio-economic development opportunities are made possible.

The mandate of the Trust includes realization of the broad-based socio-economic development and empowerment of its Beneficiaries. The Board of Trustees took a bold step to re-orientate and develop a concise organisational strategy that shall guide critical interventions to enhance socio-economic development within those beneficiary communities. The strategy is underpinned by the following pillars:

• Administration and Finance

• Agriculture, Land and Housing

• Education and Development

• Health Care

• Job Creation

• Marketing and project management

• Welfare and Humanitarian

The Trust cannot achieve all of these alone, hence the need for the strategic partnerships in order to advance successfully these interventions. The Board of Trustees, management and staff implore people, organizations and or companies everywhere in the Province and the Country to join us in this journey of rediscovering human dignity.

We, as the Board of Trustees, take delight at seeing that there are stakeholders who already joined the call for partnerships. We extend our sincere gratitude and highly appreciate the sound and sustained relationships that have already made significant impact to the betterment of our beneficiary communities.

I am pleased to present the Strategy Document for the Cookhouse Wind Farm Community Trust. This strategy covers a three-year period starting from 2022/23 to 2025/26.

Let us work together to achieve more.
